The London-based Shakespeare's Globe will bring their global touring production of William Shakespeare's Hamlet to Folger Theatre for three performances only this weekend, July 25 and 26, 2014, making it the only east coast stop for the company in the United States. Directed by Dominic Dromgoole and Bill Buckhurst, the production is a fresh, pared-down version of the classic tragedy of deferred revenge.

Following a reading as part of Vibrant 2013 - A Festival of Finborough Playwrights, the world premiere of a new play from Liverpool playwright Dameon Garnett, 17 opens at the Finborough Theatre for a limited run of six Sunday, Monday and Tuesday performances on Sunday, 20 July 2014 (Press Night: Monday, 21 July 2014 at 7.30pm).

At a meeting of the BSO Board of Directors on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, Barbara Bozzuto was elected the Orchestra's new board chair effective immediately, succeeding Kenneth W. DeFontes, Jr., who completed his three-year term in the position. Ms. Bozzuto becomes the first female board chair of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in its 98-year history, following in the groundbreaking footsteps of Marin Alsop, who, in 2007, became the first female music director of a major American orchestra.

Cabaret performers thinking about launching duo shows could certainly take a lesson in chemistry from watching and listening to singer Karen Oberlin and guitarist Sean Harkness in their current show, A Wish, which is based on their superb recently released CD of the same title, launched with two shows at Kitano on February 1 (to celebrate the CD release), and has taken up a once a month residency until late August at the Metropolitan Room (the next show is on June 25 at 9:30 pm). While theirs is not a romantic off-stage chemistry (both are happily quite happily married, thank you), on stage and in the recording studio Oberlin and Harkness have concocted a delicious musical interaction that conjures up romance to the nth degree.

Profiles Theatre Artistic Directors Darrell W. Cox and Joe Jahraus announce the titles for the 26th Season featuring a full slate of new and challenging works premiering at the Profiles Theatre Complex on North Broadway. The upcoming season features six productions including the Midwest premieres of Reasons to be Happy by Neil LaBute, the award-winning play The Other Place by Sharr White, the world premiere of Genius by Kate Walbert and a new premiere for spring 2015 to be announced soon. Additionally, Profiles' acclaimed production of Hellcab by Will Kern, one of Chicago theatre's longest running hits and a seasonal favorite at Profiles for the past two years, returns again for the holiday season. Theatre Exile closes its 17th season with the Philadelphia premiere of Annapurna, a moving and explosive new play by critically acclaimed, emerging Broadway playwright Sharr White. Driven by the emotionally charged relationship between a husband and wife, Exile's production stars Barrymore Award-winning actors Pearce Bunting (Exile's A Behanding in Spokane, HBO's Boardwalk Empire) and Catharine Slusar (Iron, Any Given Monday) as Ulysses and Emma. Performances run today, April 17 - May 11 in Theatre Exile's South Philadelphia Studio X.

Cincinnati Opera will present the world premiere of the opera Morning Star, with music by Ricky Ian Gordon and a libretto by William M. Hoffman, during the company's 2015 Summer Festival. The opera will be performed at the Corbett Theater at the School for Creative and Performing Arts, which was inaugurated as Cincinnati Opera's second-stage venue during the 2013 season. Morning Star marks the company's first world premiere in more than 50 years, and will be presented on June 30, July 2, 8, 10, 12, 17, and 19, 2015.

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center at the CUNY Graduate Center has announced the complete line-up of its inaugural PEN World Voices International Play Festival, held April 28, 29, and 30th, 2014. With each writer hailing from a different world region as classified by the United Nations, the International Play Festival generates a conversation on art, politics, dreams, war, and philosophy meant to share with American audiences a rich awareness of a greater global dialogue.
