Bernard Haitink will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct two weeks of performances highlighting works by Austrian composers - Berg, Webern, and Mahler - and Beethoven, who spent much of his career in Austria. In the first program, Mr. Haitink will conduct Webern's Im Sommerwind, Berg's Violin Concerto with Leonidas Kavakos, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, Eroica, tonight, May 8, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 9 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, May 10 at 8:00 p.m. Bernard Haitink's appearances are part of an international, season-wide celebration of the 60th anniversary of his conducting debut with the Netherlands Radio Union Orchestra (now the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra) and his 85th birthday.

The American Repertory Theater and the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research present A Panel Discussion in conjunction with the A.R.T. production of All The Way entitled All the Way: The Civil Rights Act from 1964 to Today, on Monday, September 23rd at 4:00 at the Loeb Drama Center, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge. The panel is moderated by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Alphonse Fletcher University Professor at Harvard University and Director of the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute, and includes panelists Peter J. Fernandez, Peniel E. Joseph, Timothy Patrick McCarthy, and Patricia Sullivan. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are recommended.

Artistic Director Gregory Boyd announced that the Alley Theatre's 65th Season beginning in September 2011 will include two world premieres, Elizabeth Egloff's epic play Ether Dome and Theresa Rebeck's black comedy What We're Up Against, (the latter in a rolling world premiere that includes theatres in San Francisco and Chicago), and the Outer Critics Circle Award-winning rock musical The Toxic Avenger by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan, winners of last year's Best Musical Tony Award for Memphis.
