Opera Exposures will celebrate National Opera Week by presenting a FREE recital honoring the legendary American soprano Elinor Ross on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 4:30 PM in The Music Hall at The Snug Harbor Cultural Center in Staten Island. The musical performance, titled Puccini and Duke Ellington, will feature sopranos Natalie Bergeron and Alicia Waller and tenors Carl Rosenthal and former professional football player Ta'u Pupu'a. Also performing will be the famous Chris Gillespie Quartet, who perform regularly at Bemelman's Bar in the Hotel Carlyle and a surprise guest who will not be identified until the day of the performance. They will be accompanied on piano by Mary Pinto. Dwight Owsley, Opera Exposures' Artistic Advisor and a well known New York bon vivant, will moderate the program, offering his unique and entertaining musical insights. The recital is being produced by Edna Greenwich, Founder and President of Opera Exposures.

Marsh & McLennan Agency has partnered with several local businesses to donate a performance of the Huntington Theatre Company's hit production of The Jungle Book to the Marilyn Rodman Theatre for Kids. Thanks to the generosity of the presenting sponsor and others, over 800 Boston-area at-risk-youth will have the opportunity to attend free of charge what for many of them will be their first live theatrical performance.

Boston Baroque and its Founder/Music Director, Martin Pearlman, have chosen to acknowledge a monumental moment in their history with a monument of music: Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, popularly known as the 'Choral' Symphony, which concludes with the uplifting Ode to Joy.

The Huntington Theatre Company's production of The Jungle Book will play its 100th performance on Tuesday, October 8 at 7:30pm. The Jungle Book is produced in association with Chicago's Goodman Theatre where the run began on Friday, June 21 and was extended by popular demand through August 18. The Boston run began Friday, September 7, has been extended twice by popular demand, and continues through Sunday, October 20. The Jungle Book is produced by special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Productions.

Today in 2000, Aida opened at the Palace Theatre, where it ran for 1852 performances. Aida is a musical with music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton, Robert Falls, and David Henry Hwang. Aida was nominated for five Tony Awards and won four Tony Awards in 2000, including Best Musical Score and Best Performance by a Leading Actress. Aida was also named by Time Magazine in 2000 as one of the top ten theatre productions of the year. The First National tour was nominated for nine National Broadway Theatre awards (now 'Touring Broadway Awards') and won five awards, including Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Actor, and Best Actress.

As BroadwayWorld previously announced, a new musical inspired by the work of Tupac Shakur, titled HOLLER IF YA HEAR ME, is on its way to Broadway. Directed by Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun [2004], Fences [2010] The Mountaintop), the project is planned for a Broadway production in the 2013-2014 season, subject to theatre availability.

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club presents a special theatrical performance, Broadway and Beyond. Thomas Schumacher, president and producer, Disney Theatrical Productions will host a musical journey into Disney's history on Broadway and beyond at the D23 Expo: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. Producers Jeffrey Richards and John N. Hart Jr., in association with the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.), have announced that the box office will open on Thursday, August 8th for the 17-week limited engagement of the critically-acclaimed revival of The Glass Menagerie at the Booth Theatre (222 W 45th Street) with performances beginning Thursday, September 5, 2013, and an opening night set for Thursday, September 26th. The production will star multiple Tony and Emmy Award-winner Cherry Jones as Amanda Wingfield, film and stage star Zachary Quinto as Tom, two-time Tony-nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger as Laura, and Brian J. Smith as Jim, the Gentleman Caller.

Conductor James Conlon received the 2012 Cohon Award from the Rabbi Samuel S. and A. Irma Cohon Memorial Foundation in a ceremony hosted by the Illinois Holocaust and EducationCenter in Skokie, IL on Tuesday, July 23. Mr. Conlon was honored with the Cohon Award in the "Creative Arts" field for his unique work in recovering the music of composers suppressed by the Nazi regime, thus contributing significantly both to Jewish history and to the world of music. The 2012 Cohon Award carries a prize of $30,000, which Mr. Conlon requested be directed to The OREL Foundation, www.orelfoundation.org, an invaluable resource on the topic of suppressed composers of the Twentieth Century for music lovers, students, musicians and scholars.

NME reports that Sir Elton John will be the recipient of the first-ever Brits Icon Award, to be presented at an awards ceremony on September 2. The event will be broadcast on ITV at a later date.

In 'The Past Is Still Ahead' by Sophia Romma, one of Russia's most ill-fated and controversial cult poets of the twentieth century, Marina Tsvetaeva, revisits the tumultuously tragic and sexy events of her life--just before she succumbs to 'suicide' at the hands of the Soviet Secret Police in 1941 while exiled in Siberia. The play will be presented by Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival tonight, July 23, 27 and 28 at The Jewel Box Theater, 312 W. 36th Street, 4th floor, NYC, directed by Francois Rochaix.
