Goodman Theatre's 7th annual 'Make-A-Wish Night' features the superstar former Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher and 17-year-old beneficiary Kenneth Schumacher, who wishes to be a part of a professional theatrical production. Urlacher and Schumacher don costumes tailored especially for them and appear in select scenes of the 36th annual production of A Christmas Carol, Chicago's favorite holiday tradition. New Chicago Artists Join the Goodman's Artistic Team for 2013-14 Playwrights Unit

A new crop of local talent joins Goodman Theatre's artistic team for the 2013/2014 Season. The four Chicago-based writers named to the fourth season of the Playwrights Unit-a year-long residency program designed to support and develop new works-include Andrew Hinderaker, Gift Theatre ensemble member; Mickle Maher, cofounder of Theater Oobleck; Anne Garcia-Romero, a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists; and Laura Schellhardt, who oversees undergraduate playwriting at Northwestern University. A partnership with Chicago Dramatists, the Playwrights Unit meets twice per month with members of the Goodman's artistic team to discuss their plays-in-progress and provide feedback for one another. The program includes readings of the playwrights' works-in-progress at Chicago Dramatists in early 2014, and culminates in summer 2014 with staged readings of their completed works at the Goodman. Playwrights Unit alumni include Greg Allen, Alice Austen, Ike Holter and Christopher Oscar Peña (2012/2013 Season); Philip Dawkins, Nambi E. Kelley, Elaine Romero and Martin Zimmerman (2011/2012 Season); and Seth Bockley, Lisa Dillman, Laura Jacqmin and Rohina Malik (2010/2011 Season).

Anna Deavere Smith Set for UChicago and the Harris Theater in ON GRACE, 1/21

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, the University of Chicago and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance will present On Grace, a work-in-progress staged performance conceived and created by renowned actress/playwright Anna Deavere Smith, in collaboration with cellist Joshua Roman. The performance will be directed by Leonard Foglia. The event is the culmination of Smith's 2014 Presidential Arts Fellowship at UChicago and the first formal collaborative arts partnership between UChicago and Harris Theater.

Directing the holiday favorite for the first time, Henry Wishcamper's production features all-new on stage magic-set elements, special effects and more. The cast of 27 (below, includes 14 new and 13 returning cast members) stars Larry Yando, who most recently appeared in Mary Zimmerman's production of The Jungle Book as Shere Khan, in his sixth turn as Ebenezer Scrooge and 8-year-old Matthew Abraham as Tiny Tim for the second year. A Christmas Carol runs tonight, November 16 - December 28 in the Goodman's Albert Theatre.

Michael Fett was involved in the sport of bodybuilding at a very early age claiming to have received his first weight set in the third grade! He went on to compete for the Marine Corps winning his division at the Armed Forces Championships in 1991. Fett continued to compete after his release from active duty earning the title of two-time nationally qualified, but was forced into early retirement after back to back knee surgeries. He began his aviation career outside of the military as a mechanic for a major airline based in Washington D.C. He soon realized that this wasn't the career he wanted so in 1999, he obtained his private pilot license and began the long road to becoming a commercial airline pilot. Fett was left homeless and financially destitute after the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001. His story of perseverance and determination to get his life back together was detailed in his critically acclaimed bio titled Beautiful Hardship, My Story. Today, he is an accomplished airline pilot and has piloted some of the world's most notable celebrities from Paris Hilton and Dave Chappelle to Condoleeza Rice and Danny Devito. Mr. Fett presently lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and works for a major airline based out of Chicago, Illinois.

Southport Ave. Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. The piece, inspired by Winslow Homer's classic American painting "Snap The Whip" is danced to Aaron Copland's timeless masterpiece "Appalachian Spring." An American Portrait voices the power of the land and the people who tamed it and has been hailed as an emotional treat for audiences since its premiere in 2003.
