Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota ramps up the holiday with Harmony for the Holidays, featuring the sweet-toned harmonies and sure-footed swing of acclaimed vocal jazz trio Duchess. The New York City-based threesome a?" Amy Cervini, Hilary Gardner and Melissa Stylianou - are joined by noted jazz pianist Carmen Staaf, bassist Don Mopsick and percussionist Rick Costa for a sparkling holiday program that includes such traditional favorites as Silver Bells, What Are You Doing New Year's Eve, and the Andrews Sisters' Christmas Island, plus holiday novelties like Santa Baby, Mele Kalikimaka (Hawaii's way to say a?oemerry Christmasa??), Christmas Compromise and much more. The iconoclastic British singer Barb Jungr returns to New York for the US premiere of 'Bob, Brel and Me,' her latest live-show-and-recording project, in an exclusive two-night engagement at Joe's Pub in February. Jungr performs songs from her new album, which released in the UK in September to sterling reviews, on Friday and Saturday February 14 & 15, both at 7pm. With Mark Hartman on piano, this is Jungr's first Joe's Pub appearance since July 2018. She began appearing at the club in 2003.

The holiday season is in full swing at the National Philharmonic with a?oeHoliday Singin' Popsa?? on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore. Guest conductor and local Washington talent Luke Frazier will lead the National Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorale, as well as Broadway stars and international talents Ali Ewoldt (Phantom of the Opera); Hilary Morrow (Birdland Jazz Club); Kevin Rose, international vocalist; and Addalie Burns, an eight-year-old tap dancer, in an evening of holiday hits.

The ear-catching result of this surprising marriage is the Hot Club of Cowtown, the effervescent Austin-based trio beloved for more than two decades by devoted fans across the United States and around the world. Jazz singer Mark Winkler has just released a new album on singer Bobby Troup and will do a CD release party at Feinstein's Upstairs at Vitello's on August 23. In our chat, Winkler talks about his background, his love for Troup, jazz and the overall world of music. Tell our readers about your background. Where are you from? How did you get interested in music, especially jazz?

The Grammy Museum will be hosting NOTES ON LIVING: ALL-STAR JAZZ WITH TALES BY BRIAN DOYLE May 14, 2019 as a joint benefit for WordTheatre in the Schools (WITS) and the Grammy Museum. WordTheatre's artistic director Cedering Fox will be producing and directing this evening of selected stories by award-winning author Brian Doyle, read by a star-studded cast, and accompanied by an all-star jazz band led by Starr Parodi. Cedering opened up some of her early evening time to speak to me.

Murphy has led REDCAT for more than seventeen years, starting as its founding Executive Director in 2001, before overseeing the grand opening of the facility in 2003. Edgar Miramontes, Associate Director at REDCAT, will assume additional duties of interim leadership until a permanent appointment is made.

The McCallum Theatre and Jim "FITZ" Fitzgerald co-present Keiko Matsui on Saturday, February 23, at 8:00pm as part of the Fitz's Jazz Cafe at the McCallum series. A producer, contemporary jazz pianist and composer, Keiko Matsui's career spans three decades, over twenty CDs, and numerous continents receiving international acclaim. Her music transcends geographic, generational, and musical boundaries and her unique melting pot of musical influences have garnered her a devout international following. 'Music has no borders and it creates a oneness among people,' confides Matsui. 'There have been many occasions when I have felt like music saved me. There is a connection between my fans and I, and together in my music we are sharing harmony.'
