The Sound of Music Live! - 2013 - Motion Picture History , Info & More

NBC UNIVERSAL partners with the multitalented Oscar- and Emmy-winning producing team of Craig Zadan and Neil Meron ("Smash," "Chicago") to ring in the holidays with an unprecedented world premiere television event, "The Sound of Music Live!" - a live telecast based on the stage version of the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, starring Grammy Award winner Carrie Underwood as Maria and acclaimed British actor Stephen Moyer ("True Blood") as Captain von Trapp.

From Universal Television, "The Sound of Music" is executive produced by Meron and Zadan. Beth McCarthy-Miller and Rob Ashford serve as directors.

This Sunday, May 18th, Time to Shine Youth Cabaret will celebrate youth from the Broadway community. Kids and teens that have worked on Broadway and National Tours like Mary Poppins, Billy Elliot, Annie, and NBC's The Sound of Music Live with Carrie Underwood. The young performers will all come together for one show at 3pm at Stage 72 on west 72nd Street in NYC.

Internationally known Director Philip Wm. McKinley will direct The Sound of Music at Starlight Theatre, July 25-31. McKinley previously directed Broadway's Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark and The Boy From Oz starring Hugh Jackman, as well as the internationally acclaimed 'Mozart L'OPERA ROCK' which premiered last year in Tokyo, Japan.

Last Member of the von Trapp Family Singers Passes Away at 99

According to the Daily Mail, Maria Agatha Franziska Gobertina von Trapp, the real-life, second-oldest daughter of Georg Ludwig von Trapp and Agatha Whitehead von Trapp, has passed away. She was the last member of the von Trapp Family Singers, who inspired the musical and film versions of THE SOUND OF MUSIC. She was 99.

The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre's 2014 Season-opener of Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic The Sound of Music has been enchanting audiences since it opened on January 17th, kicking off the theatre's 20th Anniversary Platinum Season. On Sunday, March 2nd, Way Off Broadway will be offering a special Sing-A-Long performance of the show where the audience will be encouraged to sing the songs along with the cast.

Lincoln Center Theater has announced that John Aylward, Kristen Bush, Beth Dixon, Barbara Garrick, Jan Maxwell, Luke Niehaus, Kevin O'Rourke and Michael Simpson will be featured in its upcoming production of THE CITY OF CONVERSATION, a new play by Anthony Giardina, directed by Doug Hughes. THE CITY OF CONVERSATION begins previews Thursday, April 10 and opens on Monday, May 5 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street). Additional casting for THE CITY OF CONVERSATION will be announced at a later date.
