High school students, teachers and parents across Houston are celebrating and filled with anticipation as the nominations for the 16th Annual Tommy Tune Awards have just been announced on facebook.com/tommytuneawards. Emmy-winner and native Houstonian, Jim Parsons announced the nominees for Best Musical via video on the Tommy Tune Awards Facebook page. Parsons, who started his career on the stage in Houston, will star in The Boys in the Band on Broadway next month.

As a part of its New Play Development initiative, Virginia Repertory Theatre, in partnership with Glass Half Full Productions, will present the world premiere of River Ditty by Matthew Mooney Keuter.  The show opens in the November Theatre on Friday, April 20th, 2018, and runs through Sunday, May 6th, with two preview performances on Wednesday, April 18th and Thursday, April 19th. New Hampshire theater audiences will have their first chance to see a professional production of a Lin-Manuel Miranda musical when the Seacoast Repertory Theatre stages In the Heights, the Tony-award winning debut work by the creator of Hamilton.

The John W. Engeman Theater announces the cast and creative team for IN THE HEIGHTS. Performances begin on Thursday, March 15 at 8:00pm and run through Sunday, April 29, 2018.

Anthony Ramos, who originated the roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton, will play Usnavi in the Broadway Center Stage production of In the Heights at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Joshua Grosso, previously announced in the role, has withdrawn from the musical due to a minor foot injury. Presented as a part of the inaugural season of Broadway Center Stage, a Kennedy Center-produced series of musicals in semi-staged concerts, In the Heights will run March 21-25, 2018 in the Eisenhower Theater.

It is very difficult for anyone intimately familiar with either the 1975 novel RAGTIME, or its brilliant 1996 musical adaptation of the same name, to believe that the story is 43 and 22 years old, respectively, when watching Axelrod Performing Arts Center's most recent, impactful production.
