The fifth season premiere of 'Superstore' (0.8 rating in 18-49, 2.9 million viewers overall from 8-8:30 p.m. ET) is up up 0.2 of a point or +33% versus last season's finale in 18-49 (0.8 vs. 0.6 on May 16) and up +47% in total viewers (2.876 million vs. 1.952 million). It pulls within 0.2 of a point of 'Young Sheldon' in the half-hour (0.8 vs. 1.0) after trailing CBS in the timeslot with the year-ago 'Superstore' season premiere by 1.3 rating points (0.9 vs. 2.2).

As college students, most of us have probably become accustomed to working with fellow actors our age who may have been doing theatre for several years, but how often are we getting involved in our communities to work with children and teens who are being introduced to theatre for potentially the first time? This July, I did just that.

For Ben Markley's fourth recording, the fleet pianist/composer teams with New York tenor saxophone great Joel Frahm for a dynamic set of modern jazz originals. Though written specifically with the band of Frahm, drummer Jim White, and bassist Marty Kenny in mind, Markley continually finds inspiration from significant influences in his musical life, most notably Cedar Walton, Chick Corea and Bill Evans. With engaging and elevating support from Kenney and White, Markley and Frahm pop on the boogaloo ''Mon Back,' strike a Jazz Messengers-esque pose on the grooving 'Return of Catboy,' and strut on the half-time funk of the title tune. The Strand Theater Company proudly opens its 12th consecutive season as the company celebrating women's diverse voices and perspectives with the production of Bright Half Life by Tanya Barfield, directed by K. Tony Korol-Evans.

Half Time's André De Shields, Donna McKechnie, Lillias White, Haven Burton, Matthew Sklar, Bob Martin, Nancy Ticotin, producer Dori Berinstein and co-producer Kimberlee Garris had a lovely reunion at Theatre Circle in celebration of the release of their Original Cast Recording, and to sign CDs for fans on August 14, 2019.

Based loosely on a true story, Half Time tells a classic fish-out-of-water story: a group of senior citizen dancers who audition to be halftime dancers, only to panic when they learn they have to dance hip-hop. The musical, which includes some of the last songs written by theatre legend Marvin Hamlisch, is certainly charming, but it never quite transcends the cheesiness of its material.

On Wednesday the 14th of August from 5:30 to 6:30 PM Theatre Circle, located at 268 West 44th Street, in the heart of the Theater District, will be hosting a CD signing for the original cast album of 'Half Time 'the musical.

2019 GRAMMY-nominated Jamaican artist Protoje continues to blaze stages worldwide. From SummerJam in Germany to Reggae Sumfest in Jamaica, Protoje has been slaying some of the summer's most coveted festival stages. This week, he picks up the second half of his North American tour with Rebelution and announces new headlining dates in select U.S. cities.  Lila Iké, one of reggae's most-talked about emerging singers, will join him in Atlanta, Santa Cruz and San Diego. Admist his stateside run, Protoje will hit some of Europe's hottest music festivals (including Oya Fest in Oslo, Norway and Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary) as well as two dates in Germany.

Riesett (Ain't Too Proud, The Prom) and Matthew Sklar, the album features music from the Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin-written musical, which made its 2018 debut at Paper Mill Playhouse and tells the uplifting true story of ten New Jersey seniors with extraordinary dreams.
