Lincoln Center Theater presents Rodgers & Hammerstein's The King and I, led by Kelli O'Hara (as Anna Leonowens) and Ken Watanabe (as the King of Siam), directed by Bartlett Sher. When one of the world's major opera houses announced its plans to present the best-known works of Broadway's Rodgers and Hammerstein over a five-season span, no one had reason to believe that the Lyric Opera of Chicago would present a 'Carousel' starring a slew of Broadway, television, opera and ballet stars alongside the cream of Chicago's theatrical and vocal talent (60 actors, singers and dancers in all), supported by an orchestra of 37 players, and all overseen by the same director and musical director who would bring 'The Sound of Music' and 'Peter Pan' to live television, Carrie Underwood, Christopher Walken and all.

Carousel is the third Rodgers and Hammerstein musical to be presented as part of Lyric's American Musical Theater Initiative. The King and I and South Pacific follow in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, respectively. Past productions were Oklahoma! in the 2012-13 season and The Sound of Music in the 2013-14 season. Carousel runs Friday, April 10 through Sunday, May 3, 2015 (26 performances, including one preview and one student matinee) at the Civic Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Dr., Chicago. On April 13th, The 24 Hour Company is teaming with the Exchange, an off-Broadway theater company, to create the seventh 24 Hour Musicals. A team of more than 100 - including stars from Broadway, film, television, and music - will cast, write, compose, direct, rehearse, tech, and perform four original musicals - all in the obscenely short time between an evening meet-and-greet on Sunday, April 12 and show time on Monday, April 13 at 8pm. The event benefits the Exchange's summer program, The Orchard Project, which incubates and accelerates innovative new theatrical work from around the world.

Broadway In Boston has revealed its 2015-2016 Lexus Broadway Season which will feature eight theatrical productions, slated for the Boston Opera House and the Citi Emerson Colonial Theatre. Some of Broadway's biggest shows will be heading to Boston beginning next fall.

According to Deadline, Mary Martin's 1960 Tony Award, which she earned for her performance in The Sound of Music, was purchased at auction today for $35,000. The trophy (which was one of four that she earned throughout her career onstage) came Boston's RR Auction as a part of the estate of Martin's son, Larry Hagman, who passed away in 2012 from complications of acute myeloid leukemia.
