In honor of Women's History Month, we're taking a look at some iconic real-life women who have been portrayed on stage in musicals!

This week's Theater Stories features the Broadway Theatre! Learn about the shows to have graced the stage of the theatre, including Gypsy, The Color Purple, Evita and more; the show that broke the theatre's box office record, and much more!

This Spotlight focuses on Elizabeth Adabale, a dedicated musical theatre entertainer who studied public health and theatre at the University of Southern California and taught high school biology with Teach for America, until the stage pulled her elsewhere. I first met her in 2013 when she began to audition for productions in Los Angeles and I knew with her talent and stage presence, Elizabeth was destined to a?oehit it biga?? on stages across the country! I reached out to her to find out how is she dealing with the cancellation of her national tour in 'The Color Purple' after 111 performances.

11th Hour Theatre Company Presents CHESS THE MUSICAL. Music by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA, lyrics by Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Lion King, Aida), and book by Richard Nelson. San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP) announced today that its world premiere musical, 33 1/3 a?" House of Dreams, currently held over until September 1st, set a new revenue record among all musicals in the theatre's recorded history. The musical beats out The REP's two previous revenue record holders, Evita (2017) and In the Heights (2013). All three musicals were Xchange Xperience productions, the partnership between San Diego REP and the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts that gives high school age students the opportunity to work on a professional production.

New York City Center today announced programming for the 2019 - 2020 season, which will include Mack and Mabel (Feb 19-23), Kurt Weill's Love Life (March 18-22) directed by Victoria Clark, and a 'new version' of Thoroughly Modern Millie (May 6-10), featuring edits by the playwright Lauren Yee and led by 2018 Tony nominee Ashley Park.

 The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced an incredible six-show lineup for its 201920 season. First, The 5th will stage a lavish production of Austen's Pride, A New Musical of Pride and Prejudice. For the holidays, The 5th will create a brand new staging of Shrek The Musical, which premiered at The 5th in 2008. The New Year kicks off with Stu for Silverton, which continues its developmental journey as a part of The 5th's New Musical Development Program. Next comes a joyful 5th Avenue Theatre original production of Sister Act, followed by an exclusive, limited two-week engagement of Once On This Island. The season will close with an original staging of the epic masterpiece, Evita. Additionally, The 5th will host a one-week run of the national tour of Jersey Boys.

Tomorrow, BBC Two will air Evita: The Making Of A Superstar. An all new clip has been released from the special, showing Elaine Paige back in the rehearsal room where she first began to learn the role that would make her a star.

Sonoma Arts Live just added a second Broadway hit to its Women Who Dare season - first EVITA, which ran to sold- out audiences in January, and now ANN, written by Holland Taylor and starring Hollywood actress Libby Villari. Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival announced today that Broadway, film and television actor Dan Domenech will star as Che in Evita this summer at Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. The production opens the Festival's 26th season.

Earlier this month, Broadway's high-heeled hit, Kinky Boots, which opened on April 4, 2013 and has played more than 1500 performances, surpassed Evita to become the 50th longest-running Broadway show of all time.
