Musical Theatre West Presents Valerie Perri in Concert

By:
Star of stage, screen, and television, Valerie Perri continues to dazzle audiences with starring turns in Los Angeles' first run of Evita, Musical Theatre West's Sunset Blvd., and most recently, 3D Theatricals Hello, Dolly! Now Perri takes to the concert stage in Musical Theatre West's (MTW) inaugural "Broadway in Concert" series, performance a showcase of musical theatre favorites and standards in "All in the Family" in the picturesque Terrace Theatre lobby on Sunday, January 29, 8pm. Tickets are now on sale at www.musical.org, at the MTW Ticket Office, or by calling (562) 856-1999 ext. 4. Tickets range from $40-$60.

Valerie Perri made her professional stage debut in 1979 starring as Eva Peron in the Broadway National Company of Evita under legendary director Harold Prince. She's played this iconic role throughout the world, including the Los Angeles premiere in 1981 at the Shubert Theatre, for which she won a Dramalogue Award. Her tenure as Argentina's first lady in Chicago, heralded by the city's Tribune as "dazzling" and "compelling," garnered her a nomination for the Sarah Siddons Award. She worked with luminary director-choreographer Jerome Robbins in the first National Broadway Tour of Jerome Robbins Broadway (1990), and has since starred in such blockbusters as Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Gypsy, Jesus Christ Superstar, Man of La Mancha, and City of Angels. Off-Broadway turns include Diamonds, Angry Housewives, And the World Goes Round, and Harry Chapin: Lies and Legends, the latter earning her a Los Angeles Drama Critics' Award. Her portrayal of Norma Desmond in Musical Theater West's 2013 production of Sunset Blvd, a performance that Stage Scene LA lauded as the "Best Musical Performance of the Year," also landed her a nomination for "Best Actress" from Broadway World.

Well-versed as a dramatic actress as well, Perri performed in the West Coast premiere of The Last Schwartz, and ICT's production of The Sweepers.

She continues to wow concert hall audiences worldwide, including performances at the famous Wolf Trap in Virginia, Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego, Disney Hall in Los Angeles, the esteemed Opera House in Frankfort, Germany, and the London Palladium. She recently sang in a beautiful tribute to the late Marvin Hamlisch with fellow Broadway artists Jason Alexander, Lisa Vroman, and Jason Robert Brown, accompanied by the Pasadena Symphony and Pops under the baton of Maestro Larry Blank.

Equally comfortable on camera as well as on the stage, Perri's film and television credits include The Out of Towners with Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin, Disney's George of the Jungle, Grease, and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star with David Spade, and guest appearances on Criminal Minds, ER, Another World, Brooklyn Bridge, and Who's the Boss.

For "All in the Family," Perri will be accompanied by musical director and pianist Gerald Stenbach, bass player, Benny Lipson, and drummer/percussionist Jack Lipson, who will also provide background vocals. The Lipson twins are not newcomers to Perri's talents; as Perri's children, they went on the road with their mother during her 1992 tour of Evita. The show is directed by Barbara Epstein, who directed the London production of Irving Berlin's WHITE CHRISTMAS.

Don't miss Valerie Perri's "Broadway in Concert" performance. For tickets or more information, go to www.musical.org, or call (562) 856-1999, ext. 4.
