This year, Bootless Stageworks is using its new home at St. Stephen's Church on Broom Street to re-present shows they had performed in earlier venues. In case you are unfamiliar with it, 'next to normal' is about a suburban family dealing with the effects of mental illness, told through a largely rock score of almost operatic proportions. The show was awarded the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater announces the world-premiere musical production of Dave by three-time Tony Award winner Thomas Meehan (Annie, Hairspray, The Producers), Tony Award nominee Nell Benjamin (Mean Girls, Legally Blonde) and Pulitzer Prize and two-time Tony Award winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal, If/Then). The world-premiere engagement is produced by special arrangement with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Doshudo Productions and Larger Than Life. Inspired by the Academy Award-nominated American political comedy film, Dave will run July 13-August 19, 2018 in the Kreeger Theater.

Dad's an architect; Mom's vivacious; their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet their lives are anything but normal. Winner of three 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Score, and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize, Next to Normal is a beautiful, brave look into the seemingly typical American family. The rock musical Next to Normal has an impressive record. It won three Tony Awards in 2009, including the award for Best Original Score, and it is one of only nine musicals ever to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama (2010). It is an emotional powerhouse of a play that demands excellence in performance, and artistic director Robert Hupp has assembled a cast capable of delivering every nuanced note when Next to Normal begins its run at Syracuse Stage on Jan. 24.

With scheduled featured performances by Beth Malone (Fun Home), Andy Kelso (Kinky Boots), Alice Ripley (Next to Normal), Rachel deBenedet (Addams Family), Elizabeth Welch (Phantom of the Opera), Hillary Capps, Mayteana Morales and Dave Bailis of Walk Talk, Danielle Rhodes, Eugene Ebner, Emmy Award-winning composer Denise Gentilini, Kennedy Caughell (The Great Comet, Wicked) and Ryan Connelly (Disney's Finding Nemo).

The Media Theatre has Next To Normal this season, January 31 through February 25, and it's the region's only production which features an entire Actors Equity Association cast. The all-star list is well known to theatergoers from Philadelphia to West Chester, as well as from Bucks, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties.
