La Jolla Playhouse announces the cast of its world-premiere musical Limelight: The Story of Charlie Chaplin, music and lyrics by Christopher Curtis, book by Christopher Curtis and Thomas Meehan and directed by Michael Unger, running September 7 - October 17, 2010 (media night: Sunday, September 19 at 7:00 pm) in the Mandell Weiss Theatre.

A new developmental production of Platinum (www.PlatinumTheMusical.com) starring Tony Award nominee Liz Larsen (The Most Happy Fella, A New Brain) and Sarah Litzsinger (Beauty and the Beast, Amour) will be presented by UnsungMusicalsCo. Inc. as part of the 2010 New York International Fringe Festival.

Act One's shows for the Fall of 2010 and Spring of 2011 have changed. The Broadway tour for Beauty and the Beast has been extended, therefore licenses for the show have been restricted through the end of the year. Unfortunately, that means Act One has had to change their plans for a show season.The fall show will now be The Wizard of Oz, and auditions will be held on Tuesday, August 24th from 4:30-5:30 for ages 5-7 and 4:30 to 8:30 for ages 8-11. Auditions for ages 12 and up will be held on Friday, August 27th from 4:30-10:00. Callbacks will be held on Saturday, August 28th from 9:00-12:30.

The 2010 2011 Kravis On Broadway season boasts a powerful line up which includes The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein and straight from the great white way, a revival of West Side Story. Add to this, NETworks Presents Disney's Beauty & The Beast, Dreamgirls and The Color Purple, all making their West Palm Beach debut at the Kravis Center. 'The upcoming Kravis On Broadway season promises a world of excitement and escape for our audience,' said Lee Bell, the Kravis Center's Senior Director of Programming.

Award-winning Broadway actresses Liz Callaway and Karen Mason have announced that they will join the lineup for 'Free to Dream', an evening devoted to the songs of Katsaros and Schermerhorn, August 2 at Joe's Pub. The program, which will have two performances at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM, showcases the people and places that make up the fabric of America; from country, rock and pop, to swing and the blues. Previously announced artists include Rent star Anthony Rapp and Avenue Q's John Tartaglia and Stephanie D'Abruzzo. Proceeds from Free to Dream benefit The New York Pops' education programs, which bring music to thousands of public schoolchildren across the five boroughs of New York City. The evening will be hosted by The New York Pops Music Director Steven Reineke, and will feature the Camp Broadway Kids, as well as the voice of Willard Scott as ‘DJ Sam'.

Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST continues to beguile audiences in Tokyo as it returned to the Japanese city last night at the Shiki Natsu Theatre.

Confirming multiple previous reports, producers Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment UK announced today that SISTER ACT - A Divine Musical Comedy will take a vow of hilarity when it arrives on Broadway in Spring 2011 at a theatre to be announced. SISTER ACT features an original score with music by multi-Academy, Grammy and Golden Globe Award-winning and celebrated composer Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and Enchanted) and lyrics by Tony Award-nominee Glenn Slater (The Little Mermaid), has a book by multi-Emmy Award winners Cheri and Bill Steinkellner ('Cheers'), choreography by Tony and Olivier Award nominee Anthony Van Laast (Mamma Mia, Bombay Dreams) and is directed by four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks (Guys and Dolls, A Funny Thing...Forum, Smokey Joe's Café). Jitters is a comedic play that examines the state of Canadian culture and the lives of its frontline practitioners. Based on playwright David French's own opening night experiences and mishaps, it has been called one of the funnies backstage comedies ever written. BWW spoke with Noah Reid and C. The classic French fairy tale, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, is given the full-blown Disney treatment in this adaptation of their own 1991 animated film. While retaining many of the elements that gave the movie it's own particular charm, this version runs a bit too long and leisurely for my tastes, being padded out with additional, and largely forgettable songs by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, some of which were cut from the movie. But, there's no denying the appeal of this material, and the large contingent of families in attendance on a muggy night at the Muny all seemed to be having a great time with this appealing and fun production that kicks off their 2010 season.

CBS Films has announced that it will delay its new Beauty and the Beast remake, BEASTLY. The Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer film will now be released on March 18, 2011.
