Cher, Reba, HAMILTON Creators, And More To Receive Kennedy Center Honors

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced the selection of four Honorees who will receive the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievements, and a special Honors distinction for a work of art and its co-creators. Recipients to be honored at the 41st annual national celebration of the arts are: singer and actress Cher, composer and pianist Philip Glass, Country music entertainer Reba McEntire, and jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter. This year, the co-creators of Hamilton-writer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, and music director Alex Lacamoire-will receive a unique Kennedy Center Honors as trailblazing creators of a transformative work that defies category.

For decades, The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association (OGCMA) has presented summer Saturday night family entertainment featuring old favorites in many popular genres, tribute bands, and occasional Christian rock. But this year, OGCMA is making a bold, unprecedented choice in presenting the first Christian rap artists ever to appear in The Great Auditorium. Two of the most popular, hit-making, award-winning rap artists, Lecrae and Andy Mineo, will strut their stuff there on Saturday, July 28, at 7:00 pm. The Auditorium is located at Pilgrim and Ocean Pathways in Ocean Grove, NJ. VIP tickets, which include seating in the first two rows, a meet-and-greet with the artists, and autographed photos are $49. The Artistic Home Ensemble will present the Chicago premiere of Lauren Gunderson's ADA AND THE ENGINE as the final entry in its three-play 2018-19 season, according to company Artistic Director Kathy Scambiatterra, who announced the season today. The 36-year-old Gunderson was the most-produced playwright in America during 2017, according to American Theatre Magazine.

The Juilliard School today announced that alumnus Wynton Marsalis, trumpeter, director of Juilliard Jazz Studies, and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, will address the graduates at the school's 113th commencement ceremony, which takes place Friday, May 18, 2018, at 11am in Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center. Mr. Marsalis received an honorary doctor of music degree from Juilliard in 2006. This will be the final commencement for Juilliard President Joseph W. Polisi, who has had a long association with Mr. Marsalis and asked that he be the commencement speaker. In July, Damian Woetzel will begin as the school's seventh president.
