Arthur - 1992 - Lincolnshire, IL (Regional) History , Info & More

Marriott Theatre
10 Marriott Drive Lincolnshire, IL

Based on the screenplay be Steve Gordon

King Arthur, the famous semi-opera in five acts by Henry Purcell, brings together theatre, dance and opera to give pride of place to love and the motherland. The original libretto by the English poet, John Dryden, tells of the quest of Arthur, king of the Britons, to rescue his fiancée, the princess Emmeline, abducted by his sworn enemy, Oswald, king of the Saxons. Our great Belgian novelist and poet, Peter Verhelst, has brought this passionate warrior’s legend up-to-date and re-written the spoken parts, injecting the plot with the originality of his own colourful imagination. Moreover, this production will be part of the commemoration to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War. There can be no doubt that this modern rewriting, carried by the musical energy of the Ghent orchestra, B’Rock, will revive the political impact and theatrical strength of Purcell’s masterpiece.

BWW Review: AN INSPECTOR CALLS: Gripping Revival Rings True
by Nancy Grossman - Mar 17, 2019

The U.S. tour of the National Theatre's multiple award-winning production of J.B. Priestley's classic thriller, AN INSPECTOR CALLS, presented by ArtsEmerson at Emerson Cutler Majestic Theatre, features masterful direction by Stephen Daldry (who also directed the 1992 West End revival), Ian MacNeil's grand-scale set, spectacular design elements (lighting, sound, and music), as well as a sterling cast of British actors in the principal roles, making you feel as if you have crossed the pond and are in attendance at the venerable National Theatre. Written in 1945 at the end of World War II, Priestley set the action in the fictional town of Brumley, England, in 1912, when the winds of the Great War were in the offing, and these bookends provide a sociopolitical arc to the plot. Pitting the attitudes of the wealthy proponents of industrial capitalism against the socialist view of the needs of the working class, the play strikingly resonates with the current climate of privilege, income inequality, and #MeToo.

Original NYC Cast Of Golden Girls LIVE To Headline Two Sailings Of Golden Girls Cruise In 2019
by A.A. Cristi - Mar 14, 2019

Sixteen years ago (2003) Golden Girls LIVE: On Stage! was created by real-life couple Peter Mac and John Mac as a loving tribute in the style of Brady Bunch LIVE. The Macs created a loving drag parody of everyone's favorite sitcom, which played to sold out audiences at the now-shuttered Rose's Turn in the West Village. The show uses on-target impersonations of the original actresses as source material (they play Estelle Getty and Beatrice Arthur, respectively) and creates original improv-parody situations to bring the girls back for the reunion fans never got.

BWW Review: AN INSPECTOR CALLS at Chicago Shakespeare Theater
by Rachel Weinberg - Feb 22, 2019

AN INSPECTOR CALLS is a gripping theatrical experience from start-to-finish. Director Stephen Daldry's breathtaking revival of J.B. Priestley's 1946 thriller had its origins in 1992 and comes to Chicago Shakespeare Theater now as part of an international tour from the National Theatre of Great Britain. Though Daldry originally conceived of this staging decades ago and Priestly has set his play in 1912, this production possesses both a timeliness and a timelessness that make it deeply impactful now.

From October 7, 2018, to January 6, 2019, The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) presents John Waters: Indecent Exposure, the first major retrospective of the artist's visual art in his hometown of Baltimore. Through more than 160 photographs, sculptures, soundworks, and video made since the early 1990s, Waters' renegade humor subverts mainstream expectations of representation and reveals the ways that mass media and celebrity embody cultural attitudes, moral codes, and shared tragedy. Waters freely manipulates images of less-than sacred, low-brow references-Elizabeth Taylor's hairstyles, Justin Bieber's preening poses, his own self-portraits, and pictures of individuals brought into the limelight through his films-to entice viewers to connect to his astute and provocative observations about society.
