My relationship with Nuffield Southampton Theatres technically started at the end of my final year of university, in a completely untheatrical way, when I trod the boards during my graduation ceremony. I was soon back as a Master's student, however; I bagged a few tickets to see Headlong's 2012 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet as payment for flyering across the University of Southampton's campuses.

Rudolf Nureyev created his version of Romeo and Juliet back in 1977 for what was then called the London Festival Ballet. He commissioned a Russian translation of Shakespeare's play, wanting to use the language to inspire the movement. The result is a cinematic, dark and accurate representation of the turmoil and passion of the characters and their tragic story.

Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the online acting workshop Monologue!, an intensive rehearsal of contemporary or classic monologues, will be held as part of Bay Street's new online programming platform Bay Street To-Go. Sessions are open to adults and kids ages 13 and up, and will be available Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting June 9. Individuals may meet for hour-and-a-half segments for a fee of $75 per session, online via Zoom. Building on over 40 years of producing powerful contemporary theatre, Studio Theatre is pleased to announce its largest class ever of commissioned artists to Studio R&D, its incubator to support the creation of new work. Studio will award grants to 10 artists-playwrights, directors, and multidisciplinary creators-investing in its future while supporting theatre-makers and expanding the idea of what it means to be a generative artist. For the first time, Studio R&D commissions are being awarded to support the creation of audio plays, as Studio explores alternate modes of theatrical storytelling in response to the present moment.

It is time for Robert Kelley to take a richly-deserved curtain call. June 30th will be his last day as Artistic Director of TheatreWorks Silicon Valley after a mind-blowing 50 years in that role. It is not hyperbole to state there isn't another individual who has had a more profound influence on the Bay Area theatre landscape. Kelley founded TheatreWorks as a scrappy, community theater company in April, 1970 and guided its transformation over the years into a Tony-winning powerhouse and nationally-recognized incubator of new works. BroadwayWorld had the pleasure of speaking with Kelley earlier this spring to discuss his half-century history with TheatreWorks.
