Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS' traditional in-theater red bucket fundraising makes its long-awaited return today, Friday, March 18, 2022. Kicking off the fundraising this weekend are the companies of Broadway's Hamilton, The Lion King and Wicked.
Viewers will get full concert performances from Tina Turner, the Notorious BIG, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, H.E.R., Aretha Franklin, Rod Stewart, Bee Gees, Alicia Keys w/ Jay-Z, Joni Mitchell, Ray Charles and Willie Nelson, and Queen. Interviews include Oprah Winfrey, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Bruce Springsteen, H.E.R., Carole King, and more.
With original songs like “AKA Chosen,” honoring strong personal choices and acceptance of her sexuality. The slow and sultry slide guitar of another, “Play On,” matches the soulful timbre of her bluesy vocals. She also offers a hard look at American reality with her reimagination of John Mellencamp’s “Pink Houses,” featuring Elliot Murphy.
