There's a haunted place between where we started and where we need to be that finds the most tender among us-and breaks them open. In You Got Older, Clare Barron's bawdy, irreverent and touching play, Mae, brokenhearted and unemployed, returns home to care for her ailing father and escape the loneliness of a life that just can't seem to get off the ground.

BWW Review: Oh What a Night at JERSEY BOYS by Stage West Theatre
by Vicki Trask - Nov 28, 2018

Given Stage West Theatre Restaurant's penchant for tributes and bio-musicals (ala Million Dollar Quartet, Rock of Ages, Red Rock Diner, and their continuously running Tribute Concert Series), Jersey Boys was a perfect fit for their 2018/2019 Season.

BWW Review: HOLIDAY INN at Derby Dinner Playhouse
by Keith Waits - Nov 26, 2018

As a kid, I remember watching White Christmas (1954) every year with my family. When I got a little older I came across Holiday Inn, the 1941 precursor that also starred Bing Crosby, but paired with Fred Astaire, and introducing the song 'White Christmas'. There was a widely held opinion among some of my friends that it was the superior movie, an attitude that remained as long as we were only watching the edited version on commercial television. Because you see, they always cut the Blackface number. Once you see it, all innocence about this movie is lost. It forever tarnishes a film that contains two of Fred Astaire's most innovative numbers: the firecracker dance, and the drunken New Year's Eve tango that is a masterpiece of comic movement. Even for the time this number, egregiously inserted for the Lincoln's Birthday sequence (yes, it was once a holiday), seems shocking and offensive.

Methel Ethyl Announce New Album And Share Single/ Video for REAL TIGHT
by Tori Hartshorn - Nov 9, 2018

Today, Methyl Ethel have announced their new album, Triage will be released February 15th on 4AD. Today, they share the single from the forthcoming album along with the accompanying video for 'Real Tight,' directed by Matt Sav. 'Real Tight' is one of the most pop-adjacent tracks [Webb has] ever made, complete with a swelling chorus and some of the most achingly personal lyrics in the Methyl Ethel canon,' Said Noisey. 'Known for filling his verses with abstractions, 'Real Tight' finds Webb making things plain and simple 'I cannot lie/ I don't feel right,' he sings on the track's chorus, a simple plea that's striking in how forward it is, compared to earlier Methyl Ethel songs.' Triage marks the Perth, Australia band's third album. It was written, produced and performed by lead singer Jake Webb, mixed by Marta Salogni and mastered by Heba Kadry. The album was recorded in Webb's home studio in West Perth and is available for pre-order today.
