This residency showing offers a sneak peek into Jody Kuehner's creative process as she develops her newest performance work for Velocity Dance Center's 2027 Season. The project, Metals and Matter of You, features Kuehner's persona Cherdonna Shinatra acting as grim reaper and death doula, guiding audiences through an exploration of death, decomposition, and consciousness through dance, drag, clowning, song, and storytelling. The work is created in collaboration with Recompose, a queer women-owned Seattle green funeral home specializing in human composting, aiming to transform how people conceptualize death.
