US Premiere Of EUROPE By David Greig Comes to Thalia's Umbrella

The best play about BREXIT was written in Scotland in 1994. (It's also about a few other places.) In a time when words and ideas are divisive, come join the feast that is David Greig's powerful play about two refugees who change a small town. The town is already reeling from layoffs at the local factory, and because the trains that link all of Europe no longer stop in the town's station. Everyone in town, old and new, must decide where home is and what they will do to find, make, or keep it. Come see the terror and triumph of worlds colliding in a play that Arts Desk called "Timely, tender, brutal, and brilliant."

The cast of EUROPE features David Pichette as FRET, William Hall Jr. as SAVA, Yadira Duarte (LYDIA, Strawberry Theater Workshop) as KATIA, Douglas Graham (ANTHONY AND CLEOPATRA, Atlanta Shakespeare Company) as BERLIN, Emily Pike (THE DEVIL AND SARAH BLACKWATER, Annex Theatre) as ADELE, Monal Pathak (author of INDIA CURRENTS) as MOROCCO, Tallis Moore (THE DARK HORSE, Kairos Productions) as BILLY, and Danny Lacker (FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, Arizona Theatre Company) as HORSE.

Joining Producing Artistic Director of Thalia's Umbrella and Director of EUROPE, Terry Edward Moore, on the Creative Team are Stage Manager Jessica C. Bomball (INDECENT, Seattle Repertory Theater), Scenic and Lighting Designer Roberta Russell (A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, Seattle Shakespeare Company), Properties Designer/Technical Director Richart Schug (THE REVOLUTIONISTS, Bainbridge Performing Arts), Sound Designer Lucy Peckham (THE BOILER ROOM, Old Globe Theatre), Costume Designer Jae Hee Kim (THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT, Burien Actor's Theater).

Also supporting Thalia's production are Assistant Stage Manager Shay Trusty, Production Manager Matthew Ray, and Associate Artistic Director Daniel Wilson.

"I was delighted to find a play that speaks to our political moment with such power, humor, and wit," says director Terry Edward Moore. "That it was so prescient is wonderful!"

Review: THE WIZ at The 5th Avenue Theatre Photo
L. Frank Baum’s classic fantasy “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” is the gift that just keeps on giving. From its 1901 origins to the 1939 iconic film to any number of sequels, movies, and even a Broadway musical or two, we always seem to want to hear more and more about the magical land of Oz. And no small part of those tales is the fabulous William F. Brown and Charlie Smalls, Tony Award winning musical, “The Wiz” from 1974. And now the 5th Avenue Theatre has brought this green gem to vivid life with their current delightful production.
