Marya Sea Kaminski, Associate Artistic Director at the Seattle Repertory Theatre and graduate of the University of Washington Professional Actor Training Program, is returning to her Alma Matter to direct Ellen McLaughlin's modern adaptation of the Fall of the House of Atreus, Iphigenia and Other Daughters.

"I am so grateful to be back at the University of Washington, directing this gorgeous play," says Ms. Kaminski. "Iphigenia and Other Daughters not only examines and challenges the perspective from which we view history, but breathes new life into the words of Euripides and Sophocles, giving the story a sense of modernity while still maintaining the timeless essence of the Greeks."

Adapted from Euripides' Iphigenia and Aulis and Iphigenia in Tauris, and Sophocles' Electra, Iphigenia and Other Daughters challenges the representation of women in Greek plays and places the female experience at the center of the storytelling. Ms. McLaughlin's plays and adaptations often examine the perspective of women in the Greek stories, as well as looking at the themes in context of today's societal issues. Ms. McLaughlin, who is also an actor, will be performing in Roz and Ray by Karen Hartman at the Seattle Repertory Theatre this fall.

Ms. Kaminski received her MFA from the UW School of Drama in 2004 and has since been a major artistic influence in Seattle. Ms. Kaminski is the recipient of the Stranger Genius Award, a Gregory Award for Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role, multiple Seattle Times Footlight Awards, and was named "Artist of the Year" by Seattle Magazine. In addition to serving on the Artistic staff at the Seattle Repertory Theatre, Ms. Kaminski has taught at Cornish College of the Arts, the University of Washington, and Hollins University. She has performed on major stages in Seattle including ACT Theatre, The Intiman, Seattle Repertory Theatre, and On the Boards.
