Seattle Center Festál Presents Seattle Fiestas Patrias 9/17-18
Seattle Center Festál: Seattle Fiestas Patrias transports the celebration of indepedence in Mexico and other Latin American countries to the Pacific Northwest, Saturday, Sept. 17, noon - 11 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 18, noon - 5 p.m., in Center House, Fisher Pavilion and Seattle Center Pavilion.
Fiestas Patrias showcases Latin American art, music and culture. In addition, festival goers enjoy the flavors of traditional and contemporary Latin American foods at some outstanding outdoor food vendors. Highlights of the Festival include performances by:
• Super Sonora Internacional Dinamita - international cumbia band from Colombia.
• Mariachi Guadalajara - mariachi band direct from Mexico
• Bailadores de Bronce - Mexican folkloric dancers from Seattle
• Banda LM, Mexican Band - Sinaloa banda de viento
Fiestas Patrias also offers a health fair, the 6th Annual Sea Mar Amateur Youth Boxing Tournament, and lectures by noted historian and University of Washington professor, Erasmo Gamboa, highlighting the Fiestas Patrias theme: "Contributions of Latinos in the Pacific Northwest." • Domador de la Sierra - Seattle's own Mexican Band - tierra Caliente• Camaleon - Latin rock
• Rumbaegge - salsa, cumbia and merengue
• Orquesta la Rebelión - tropical, cumbia, salsa
• La Bala - Norteño band
• Mariachi Monarcas - mariachi band
• Poder Negro - música versátil
• Mariachi Huenachi - mariachi band and folkloric dancers
• Gelaguetza - Mexican folkloric dancers
The 21 cultural celebrations of Seattle Center Festál highlight The Common forms of tradition and expression among ethnic communities in the Pacific Northwest, while underscoring their unique creative contributions, customs, foods and ideals. Each event offers moving entertainment and fascinating insight into a different culture of the world.
