It is 1945 and thousands of German POWs live in camps scattered throughout the U.S. Some are dedicated Nazis, others are barely old enough to hold a rifle, but all share a fear of an uncertain future as, back in Germany, their world collapses. They're frightened of the war, of losing their home, and of the vastness of the strange American landscape. In one Minnesota camp, a production of a Moliere play may give them hope-through escape or transcendence.

Based on interviews conducted by playwright Vincent Delaney between 2003 and 2004, The Art of Bad Men brings to the stage a chapter of history treated as little more than a footnote for far too long.

"I met Vince Delaney over ten years ago as a fellow actor and not long thereafter had the privilege of performing in his wonderfully gritty play, Kuwait," says director Kelly Kitchens. "Ever since, I have been a fan of his writing-full of humor and wit, depth and heart-and I am simply over the moon that MAP Theatre has allowed me the honor of directing this beautiful, theatrical, and nuanced script. Ultimately the play asks us what happens when the world around us is no longer sharply black and white; and how we change when people are no longer viewed as 'the other', but simply for who they are: complex individuals."

The Art of Bad Men is directed by 2014 Gregory Award-Winner and Seattle Weekly's 2015 Best of Seattle: Best Director, Kelly Kitchens (Washington Ensemble Theatre's Tall Girls and Seattle Public Theater's Slow Girl) and features the acting talents of Ben Burris, Grace Carmack, Peggy Gannon, Ben McFadden, Brandon Ryan and Sean Schroeder.

Vincent Delaney's The Art of Bad Men production staff includes Jocelyne Fowler (Costumes), Brandon Estrella (Set), Tess Malone (Lights), Joseph Swartz (Sound), Jodi Sauerbier (Props), Mark Fullerton (Music Coach), and Dan Rector (Dramaturg), Kacey Shiflet (Audience Experience, Social Media), Marianna de Fazio (Dialect Coach), and Cole Hornaday (Marketing/PR and Podcast Curator). The production is stage managed by Katherine Draves and assistant stage managed by Sarah Bixler.
