Annex Theatre presents a bold new culture-bending play about a future 'right- thinking' America in Her Mother Was Imagination by local playwright Elizabeth Heffron, directed by Ellie McKay. Her Mother Was Imagination opens on Friday July 30th, 8pm and runs Fri & Sat through August 28th with PWYC August 6th & 7th and Industry Night (PWYC) August 16th at Annex Theatre, corner of 11th & East Pike Street in the heart of Seattle's Capitol Hill. $15 General, $5 TPS/Student/Senior/Military.

This edgy satire dares to envision a post-constitutional society who have embraced Glenn Beck as their leader and submit their lives to the will of the Elders yet find themselves confined to a massive sky-scraping tower, stratified by floor levels, living safely above a treacherous earth terrain below where only the basest of creatures survive. This almost Orwellian life in the tower is both savage and decadent and at times an opulent spectacle in this fantastical new world order.

This new play is entirely lit by human-charged batteries in effort to minimize its own environmental footprint as well as champion the practical applications of alternative renewable energy.

Annex Theatre is a democratic collective of theatre artists dedicated to creating bold new work in an environment of improbability, resourcefulness and risk.

In addition to new plays, Annex Theatre produces radical reinterpretations of classic scripts, ensemble-generated performances and non-linear wild-ass spectacles. Also kicking off the first Friday of every month is our late-night variety show Spin the Bottle, now entering its 12th year!

Now in its new Capitol Hill venue, Annex originally opened its doors in 1987 in a former dance studio on 4th Avenue in downtown Seattle. Since then the theater has produced hundreds of world and Northwest premieres, including new plays by Stranger Genius Award winners Chris Jeffries and Paul Mullin; dozens of local playwrights, including Jeff Resta, Kelleen Conway Blanchard, Keri Healey, Scot Augustson, John Kaufmann, Elizabeth Heffron, Heidi Heimarck, and Suzanne Maynard; and nationally recognized playwrights such as Erik Ehn, Naomi Iizuka, GLen berger, Anne Washburn, Jeffrey Jones, and Nicky Silver.

Former Annex company members alumni can be found throughout the Seattle arts community including former Artistic Director of the Empty Space Allison Narver, Executive Director of Town Hall Weir Harman, Development Director of ACT Josef Krebs and Education Director of Seattle Repertory Theatre Andrea Allen as well as in the local and national film industry such as directors SJ Chiro, Garrett Bennett, Mike Shapiro and actors Jillian Armenante and Paul Giamatti.
