Adding Up America: Solving the Race Equation is a 60-minute solo performance created and performed by award-winning singer, songwriter, and playwright Monique DeBose, exploring mixed-race identity in the United States through mathematical equations as metaphor. Inspired by DeBose's own experiences at a personal crossroads — choosing between a future with her Black Ghanaian lover or her White British husband — the show dismantles the racial equations she has been calculating her entire life. Blending humour, storytelling, and original Jazz-inspired music sung live over a recorded underscore, the production encourages audiences to think critically about how race is named, inherited, and lived. Previously winner of the Hollywood Fringe Producer's Encore Award and the Valley Theatre Award for Best Solo Production, this is the show's UK premiere.
