Edinburgh Fringe Performer Warms Up With Show in Faroe Islands

Michael Anderson performed the final preview of his brand-new Fringe show in the remote northern European islands, the Faroes. A packed audience at Tórshavn Theatre cheered Anderson on his way to Edinburgh where he is performing for the first time.

Elvis in Chaos will open on Friday, 7 August at Greenside @George Street when Michael will take you on a roller-coaster ride through his fabulously weird and curiously wonderful universe in his critically acclaimed one-of-its-kind alternative comedy show.

Fast-paced, funny and image-driven, Elvis in Chaos is a fresh and vibrant romp that unties the shoelaces of reality then tangles them back together using multiple Elvis-based timelines, quantum physics, the Multiverse and a whole heap of random anomalies.

Michael said: 'I want you to be visually stimulated as I challenge you on everything from Chaos Theory, Elvis and the Cuban Missile Crisis, through the Quantum lottery and romance in the Multiverse, to how Bagpipes caused the Black Death.

Fresh off the plane from the Faroes, Michael, who when not performing is a union lawyer in Boston, US, reflected on his experience in the capital. 'It was wonderful. We ended up packing this smallish theatre, and yeah, it was exhilarating!'

Michael performed his full Edinburgh show. 'I was getting the feel for what what the audience is responding to and what they're not. There are a number of pieces that are not simply a 'ha ha' punchline - the point of the story is something a little bit deeper and more serious. And when I'm running that past a Faroese audience, it's very useful to look into their faces and see what they're getting and what they're not. But otherwise, it was not that different from the shows I do in Boston.'

It was not the first time Michael had performed on the archipelago which is located between Iceland, Norway and Scotland, and is 430 miles north of Edinburgh. 'This is the third time we've been to the Faroe Islands, which I love,' he said.

Last year, he performed in a hipster bar. 'We walked through this old fishing village and turned a corner, and there's this psychedelic mural and we knew it was the place. This smallish bar filled up with about 50 people, so I wanted to go back and perform again.'

Proceeds from his Edinburgh shows - where tickets are Pay What You Can - will go to support immigrant defence networks in Boston, Massachusetts.

Elvis in Chaos is on at 17:15 7-15 August at Greenside @ George Street (Lime Studio, Venue 236).
