EDINBURGH 2022: Review: LAG: A ZOOMSICAL COMEDY

Lag: A Zoomsical Comedy is the world's first original musical created to be performed over video conferencing. It is included in the 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe programme as streamed content to be viewed online.

Set in May 2020, Lag: A Zoomsical Comedy is about a class on meditation and self care that has moved online due to restrictions. Four actors are featured on a split screen and they sing about their frustrations that have been caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Their problems are all things that the audience will be able to relate to from lockdown.

The cast are capable and enthusiastic although the songs are forgettable. Lag: A Zoomsical Comedy isn't really bringing any new conversation to the table and is possibly a reminder of a time we'd rather forget.

The main perk of Lag: A Zoomsical Comedy is its accessibility. It is one of the few shows available online during the festival that can be viewed by people who are unable to make it to Edinburgh in person and it is available free of charge. The run time is also a highlight, at just eleven minutes it serves as a short introduction to musicals.
