DIC DIC CHANG CHANG PLAYGROUND to Return to Edinburgh Fringe for Final Year
The award-winning interactive production from One Table Two Chairs will play theSpace @ Surgeons Hall.
A joyful, action-packed introduction to Cantonese opera for children and families, Dic Dic Chang Chang Playground weaves together drama, live music and audience participation in a battle against the villainous Boring King.The story follows two young guardians of Cantonese Opera Land - Captain Dic Dic and Chang Chang, whose names echo the striking sounds of the Muyu and Gong instruments - as they fight to save their magical world from a puppet tyrant determined to make everything dull. Guided by the Cantonese Opera Fairy, the pair discover the power of performance through gestures, song, and symbolic staging. Families are called upon to learn simple routines, pick up key Cantonese opera phrases, and enlist as secret agents in the mission to vanquish the Boring King once and for all. Celebrated for its imaginative fusion of storytelling and cultural discovery, this award-winning interactive production makes Cantonese opera feel exciting and accessible. Performances will run at theSpace @ Surgeons Hall, Royal College of Surgeons.
Now returning to the Fringe for a third and final consecutive year, Dic Dic Chang Chang Playground was recognised as Asia Art Special Award Runner-Up at the Asian Art Awards 2024, Best Production at IC Award 2025 and has also received an Arts Promotion and Education Award from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) - the statutory body responsible for developing the arts across Hong Kong.

One Table Two Chairs Charitable Foundation is a Hong Kong-based non-profit dedicated to preserving and revitalising Cantonese opera and related folk arts. Founded in 2018 and led by veteran Artistic Director Professor Yuen Siu Fai, OTTC creates innovative productions that blend traditional techniques with contemporary storytelling. Their mission is to make Cantonese opera accessible and engaging for young audiences and new generations, expanding appreciation for this cultural treasure. The company's name reflects the iconic minimal stage setup central to Cantonese opera, symbolising endless creative possibilities.
