CHIP AND GUS to Bring Ping Pong Comedy to Edinburgh Festival Fringe
Writer-performers John Ahlin and Christopher Patrick Mullen bring their Fat Knight Theatre production to Old Saint Paul's Church.
A fast, funny and transcendent play about two oddball men playing ping pong in a bar will play the historic Venue 45 at Old Saint Paul's Church from August 13th to the 29th during this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Performances will run 13-29 August 2026.
Chip and Gus, two men, casual acquaintances, meet once a month in a rundown upstate New York sports bar, to do the one thing they love...play ping pong. But this night is different...this night something else is in the room.
As the balls and banter fly back and forth, they discover their lives intertwine in shocking ways. Gus, a flamboyantly stoic professor of Philosophy, is a socially inept genius spouting wit and pedantry, and Chip, a goofy struggling music teacher and composer, whose life is hanging by a thread, are on a collision course. Their chemistry explodes in hilarious and heart-breaking revelations, swirling into a spectacular human symphony.
Chip and Gus, a comedy with balls, was winner of a Best Overall Excellence Award at FringeNYC, and was a First Choice for Soho Playhouse's Best of Two Fests. Produced by New York's award-winning Fat Knight Theatre, with writer/performers/ping pong players John Ahlin and Christopher Patrick Mullen, the play has been hailed as a one-of-a-kind theatre piece. BroadwayRadio critic Peter Filichia, who has reviewed over 15,000 plays, calls Chip and Gus 'One of the most impressive things I've ever seen.'
