Confederates at Howard J. Millman Black Box Theatre at Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe

Confederates is a time-bending drama by Dominique Morisseau that braids together two parallel stories of Black womanhood across centuries. In the present, Sandra, a political science professor, navigates academia, public scrutiny, and racial bias; in the past, Sara, an enslaved woman and Union spy during the Civil War, risks everything to claim her freedom. Directed by WBTT Assistant Artistic Director Jim Weaver, the production stars Jazzmin Carson, Moriah Cary, Canela Vasquez, Laura McKennan, and Peterly Jean-Baptiste. The play originally premiered off-Broadway in March 2022 at New York's Signature Theatre Company.
