Long revered as the greatest Balkan Gypsy brass orchestra, the Boban and Marko Markovic Orchestra is led by Boban Markovic, judged the “best trumpet on Earth” at the legendary Guca festival in central Serbia. Originating from Vladicin Han, Southern Serbia, the band is wholly defined by its Gypsy lineage; from an old-world brass heart comes flavors as diverse as flamenco, klezmer, Latin and rock. Markovic’s son, Marko, who joined the ensemble at age 14, has subsequently become the main soloist, arranger and composer of new material. Now, with Marko as the visionary, they are taking off in thrilling new directions, performing an eclectic repertoire that “zigzags between Turkish delights, ballistic Balkan rhythms and funk that would draw a smile from George Clinton’s countenance... genius at work here” (The Weekend Australian).
