Kelrik Productions is pleased to announce the Central Coast Premier of SHREK THE MUSICAL to stage at the Spanos Theater, Performing Arts Center, San Luis Obispo. From today, July 12 - 21, 2013 audiences can fall in love with Shrek and his wise-ass sidekick, Donkey all over again.

Originally an Oscar -winning DreamWorks film with three successful sequels and two holiday specials, SHREK THE MUSICAL is based on the life-changing adventure Shrek endures trying to reclaim the deed to his land. Part romance, part twisted fairy tale and an unlikely hero makes for a show like no other show on the Central Coast.

Shrek's adventure begins in a kingdom far, far away where things become unsettled when an ogre replaces the handsome prince who, according to fairy tales should be the one to rescue the beautiful princess. But when Shrek steps in to save Princess Fiona from a mean fire-breathing dragon, things couldn't go more wrong. Their feisty relationship, a chatty donkey, a very short villain and other fairytale misfits keep the audience entertained.

Before Shrek was a musical, or even a movie, he was a storybook character created by New Yorker cartoonist and author William Steig in 1990. The production played on Broadway from 2008 to 2010 and revised versions continue to tour.

The role of Shrek will be played by Christian Clarno. Tabatha Skanes will play the feisty Princess Fiona. Redzuan Abdul Rahim is Shrek's lovably annoying best friend Donkey, and Erik Austin plays the vertically challenged villain Lord Farquaad.

Rounding out the cast of misfit fairy tale characters, the peoples of Duloc and Far, Far Away will be: Joe Ogren, Ashlin Hatch, Danielle Mendoza, Chloe Davis, Carissa Calberg, Carey Blauvelt, Gregg Riforgiate, Allison King, Karlyn Kromhout, Mya Paredes, Theresa Riforgiate, Chase Schalchlin, Sandy Schwarer, Ryan Vasquez, Alison Warren, Lester Wilson, Mike Mesker, Turner Spratt, Emily Riforgiate and Coen Carlberg.

SHREK THE MUSICAL features a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, Good People), music by Olivier Award-winner Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline, or Change). SHREK THE MUSICAL is directed by Erik Austin with Musical Direction by Lacey McNamara and Choreography by New York Guest Artist Joe Ogren. The creative team also includes David Beals (Lighting Design), Kathleen Forster and Keith Wetzel (Costume Design), Ethereal FX (Dragon Design), Mark Hughes (Set Design) and Grosh (Scenic backdrops).

SHREK THE MUSICAL performances are Friday and Saturday Evenings at 7 PM with Sunday Matinees at 2 PM. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at www.pacslo.org, by phone (805) 756-4TIX or at the PAC Box Office 1 Grand Ave, San Luis Obispo.
