Little Women to replace Hello! My Baby in PCPA's 2011-2012 Season

By:

Little Women, The Broadway Musical based on the beloved classic novel by Louisa May Alcott will replace Hello! My Baby in PCPA's upcoming spring and summer seasons. The change of line up resulted after an added East Coast developmental production of Hello! My Baby precipitated changes in the agreement with the rights-holders which could not be finalized early enough to meet previously scheduled production deadlines. Rubicon Theatre's scheduled dates for Hello! My Baby at the Rubicon and the Lobero theatres will not be affected.

PCPA Artistic Director, Mark Booher, said "Of course we share the disappointment with our colleagues at the Rubicon; however, we felt that any further delays would affect the integrity of the process and the quality of the experience for our audiences and conservatory students. We continue in our admiration and respect for Rubicon Theatre Company and our belief that Hello! My Baby would have been a great next step following our partnership on Daddy Long Legs by Tony and Olivier Award-winner John Caird and Tony nominee Paul Gordon, which is also a part of this season."

Rubicon Producing Artistic Director Karyl Lynn Burns added, "We deeply value our relationship with PCPA Theaterfest and have tremendous admiration for the artistry of the company under Mark's visionary leadership. This has been a wonderful opportunity for our staff members to connect and we eagerly look forward to other collaborations, and to continuing to share ideas and resources."

Little Women, The Broadway Musical will be directed by PCPA Associate Artistic Director Roger DeLaurier, with choreography by Michael Jenkinson. The change of titles will not affect performance dates, which are February 16 - March 11 in Santa Maria and June 14 through July 1 in Solvang. Please note: subscriber tickets already printed for Hello! My Baby will be honored for the same show dates as Little Women.

With book by Allan Knee, music by Jason Howland and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, the musical is based on the Louisa May Alcott novel, which follows the adventures of Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy March as they grow up in Civil War America. Jo longs to publish a novel. Meg longs for a fiancé. Beth longs for a piano. Amy longs to be admired. As relevant today as when it was written, this timeless tale has been given new life as an exhilarating new musical filled with glorious song, dancing and a few tears. Jason Howland's score celebrates personal discovery and a young America finding its voice and coming of age in a time of challenge and transformation.

"I'm very happy to be able to bring this lovely musical adaptation of a beloved literary classic to our audiences. It's grounded in Louisa May Alcott's tremendous writing and brimming with the life of a new musical, which is so appropriate to the story of the March girls and their journey as a family through travail and triumph." Booher concluded.

The Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts (PCPA) of Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, California supports a unique, fully-accredited vocational training program for aspiring actors and theatre technicians. PCPA is the only training program of its kind offered by a community college in the United States.
