Spreckels Theatre Company presents “Guys and Dolls”
Music and lyrics by Frank Loesser
Book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows
Based on characters created by Damon Runyon
With Damon Runyon's lovable and comedic characters and Frank Loesser's crowd pleasing score, this Tony Award-winning Broadway classic is a sure bet.
Based on short stories by Damon Runyon, "Guys and Dolls" begins when good old reliable Nathan Detroit bets fellow gambler Sky Masterson that he can't make the next girl he sees fall in love with him. This beloved "fable of Broadway" continues with the escapades of two complicated courtships and a host of eccentric, lovable characters including gamblers, night-club entertainers and Salvation Army do-gooders and classic showtunes including “Fugue for Tinhorns," “Bushel and a Peck,” "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat" and “Luck Be A Lady.”
This main stage production is presented with the new Paradyne projection system, developed by Spreckels Performing Arts Center, combining still images and animations to create multiple backdrop effects - creating a visual aesthetic that's exciting and visually surprising for audiences of the 21st Century.
Directed by Gene Abravaya
