It’s been more than 25 years since the Broadway musical "Carousel" has been presented on a Sonoma County stage. The Spreckels Theatre Company main stage production will feature choreography and costumes, but Rodgers and Hammerstein's music is the real star of this "staged concert" presentation. Set in a coastal village in Maine at end of the 19th century, "Carousel" follows the stormy romance of roughish carnival barker Billy Bigelow and a naive mill worker, Julie Jordan. Driven by desperate circumstances, Billy makes choices that lead to his untimely death. After years in purgatory he is permitted one day on Earth to set things right. Billy reaches out to his wife Julie and their 15-year old daughter in an effort to redeem his life and his soul. Declared by Time Magazine as "the best musical of the 20th Century," Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical score features “If I Loved You,” “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over,” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
