Contemporary Asian Theater Scene (CATS), in collaboration with award-winning Director and Playwright Jeffrey Lo who serves as the Artistic Producer, presents the 2nd Annual AAPI Playwright Festival on July 26th at 7:30 PM (PDT) at San Jose Stage Company (The Stage) in downtown San Jose.

Directed by Reed Flores and Tasi Alabastro. Flores also serves as Associate Artistic Producer. This unique theater arts experience showcases the talent of local Bay Area AAPI theatre artists.

The 2nd annual AAPI Playwright Festival features new original short plays by the following playwrights:

  • Marissa May Macaraeg Martinez, "Now It’s A Party"
  • Jenny Nguyen Nelson, "Breathe In Breathe Out, A Pregnant Woman's Guide to Calming the Eff Down"
  • Conrad A. Panganiban, "The Pascual Family Detectives"
  • Lisa Marie Rollins, "BOLO"
  • Kenna Tanaka, "Mama I'll Fix It"
  • Plus, a series of monologues written by Jeffrey Lo, who also serves as Artistic Producer

Audiences will see a theatrically staged reading of five world premiere short plays and enjoy a talkback post-show discussion with the playwrights. A staged reading is a performance format in which actors mostly read from scripts—often with minimal blocking, sets, and costumes—allowing the focus to remain on the story and the playwright’s words. The AAPI Playwright Festival is a welcoming space where theatergoers can connect, reflect and celebrate AAPI storytelling.
