Magic Theatre, America's premiere home for new plays, is proud to announce their 2006-07 season opener: Sam Shepard's The God of Hell, running from Sept. 23 through Oct. 22.

Directed by Amy Glazer, in this "unflinching ode to our current administration by Magic's signature playwright, a Midwestern couple's life gets turned upside down when a salesman appears on their doorstep selling patriotic paraphernalia," states press notes, "Electric, quick-witted and subversively funny, The God of Hell is political theatre at its best. Written by Shepard to affect the outcome of the 2004 Presidential election, this dark political comedy will run in the wake of the November elections."

The God of Hell features a notable Bay Area cast: Anne Darragh and John Flanagan play the farmer couple, Jackson Davis is Mr. Haines, their unsuspecting neighbor and Michael Santo rounds out the cast as the salesman.
