'Sex' Extends 2-Weeks at Aurora Theatre thru Dec.23

Audiences and critics alike have been seduced by SEX. Due to overwhelming popular demand, Berkeley's Aurora Theatre Company announces a two week extension of its critically acclaimed production of screen siren Mae West's first full-length play, SEX.

Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director Tom Ross, who helmed the company's hit 2007 production The Birthday Party, revamps this naughty good time, featuring music direction by piano man Billy Philadelphia, and choreography by Jayne Zaban.

Bay Area favorite Delia MacDougall stars in SEX in the role West originally penned for herself; also featured are Robert Brewer, Steve Irish, Craig Jessup, Maureen McVerry, Kristin Stokes, and Danny Wolohan. A naughty and nice holiday treat, SEX plays now through December 23 at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley. "Featuring an array of colorful characters, including pimps, prostitutes, sailors, and socialites, SEX chronicles the trials and tribulations of an upwardly mobile lady of the night as she travels the world looking for love. Full of salty songs, the seductive shimmy, and a slew of notable double entendres, this saucy stage gem caused quite a stir when it premiered on Broadway in 1926, and was subsequently closed down by the police; West herself was convicted of obscenity. SEX paved the brassy entertainer's way to Hollywood, where she became one of the funniest, and most notorious, film icons of the 20th century," explain press notes.
