Marin Theatre Company Receives $350,000 Challenge Grant

By:

Marin Theatre Company's artistic director Jasson Minadakis, managing director Michael Barker and Board of Directors' Development Committee chair Fred Taylor announced today that the company received a two-year $350,000 challenge grant from an anonymous Marin couple. The grant will match dollar-for-dollar all donations from supporters who have not previously contributed to MTC. The grant will also match each dollar given above the amount a returning donor gave in 2012. Gifts doubled by 2012 donors will be matched in full, doubling the impact of their contributions.

"Whether it's staging a remarkable production of the highest quality, helping contemporary American Playwrights develop new work, or bringing live theater to thousands of young people each year," said Barker, "everything that Marin Theatre Company does is made possible by our loyal supporters. Their generosity of support in time and treasure makes possible world-class Theater Productions and educational programs right in our back yard here in Marin. We are very grateful for our anonymous donor to invest in our company in a way that encourages others to deepen their support."

Based in Mill Valley, MTC is a 46-year old 501(c)3 nonprofit theater with an annual expense budget of $2.9 million in FY 2012. Earning revenues of $3.0 million during that same fiscal year, the company received 52% of its income from contributed sources like individual donations, foundations, corporations, governments, donated services and materials, and special events - with just over half of that (54%) being from individual donations alone. FY 2012, which ended on June 30, 2012, was the fourth year in a row that MTC ended its season with a revenue surplus.

Founded in 1967, Marin Theatre Company is the Bay Area's premier mid-sized theater and the leading professional theater in the North Bay. We produce a six-show season of provocative plays by passionate playwrights from the 20th century and today in our intimate 231-seat proscenium theater. We are committed to the development and production of new plays by American Playwrights, with a comprehensive New Play Program that includes two nationally recognized annual playwriting awards, new play readings and workshops by the nation's best emerging playwrights and a leadership position in the National New Play Network. Our numerous education programs serve more than 6,000 students each year.
