The Crystal Springs Players will present the musical comedy Godspell, based on the Gospel of Matthew with music and lyrics by Stephen Swartz, to open March 23 at the Crystal Springs Theatre in San Mateo.

"Godspell is a musical comedy with a whimsical view of Jesus' life set in modern time. Humor and song are used to explore the destructive nature of the seven deadly sins: greed, lust, pride, gluttony, wrath, sloth and envy," states press notes, "Godspell features 14 talented actors while a live rock band, The Dead Sea Trolls, will provide the accompaniment."

Directed by Adena DeMonte, Musical Direction by Joe Trimble, Choreography by Beth Covey.

Show dates are March 23, 24, 30, 31, April 5, 6 & 7 at 8PM; March 25 & April 1 at 7PM.

Tickets are $18 for Friday March 23, which includes a champagne reception with the cast; $16 for regular tickets; $14 for seniors/students, $12 for groups; and $10 for the Thursday April 5 performance.

In 1993, members of the Crystal Springs United Methodist Church founded the Crystal Springs Players to develop artistic talents through drama.  The Players are now into their 13th successful season. For more information visit www.csumc.org/drama/CSPProduction.htm.
