BWW Reviews: BLUE MAN GROUP Chases Away Blues at the Majestic

By:

From the moment Blue Man Group comes onstage to the final curtain call, the performance was top notch. For one attending this event, the entertainment was exciting and different. The masterminds behind the success of Blue Man Group are the creators Chris Wink, Philip Stanton and Matt Goldman. They strive to mix science, art, theatre and music into a performance that is non-stop action. While this trio created it and performed for many years, they have now stepped down and remain in the background creating more innovative entertainment for their company Blue Man Productions.

The three performers who participate in the tour of Blue Man Group work well as a trio and work seamlessly through each piece. While Blue Man Group is a mixture of comedy, education and music it continues to keep the audience engaged.  There is a lot of audience interaction including bringing audience members onto the stage and climbing on the seats around the audience.  This works well in the setting of the historic Majestic Theatre in San Antonio and the audience cannot take their eyes off of this funny little troupe.

The musical instruments range from traditional guitars, keyboards and drums but include many unique instruments created by Blue Man Productions utilizing PVC piping, large drums and other unusual materials to create music. The musicians included in this tour are talented in their own rights and seem to enjoy every moment of the show themselves.

Of course what Blue Man Group performance would be complete without some paint flying all over the place? The first two rows of the theatre are designated as “splash zones” and the audience members are given ponchos to protect their clothing.

San Antonio’s Majestic Theatre continues to play host to the trio and their entourage now through Sunday, February 26th.  Single seats are still available by going to http://www.majesticempire.com/ or http://www.ticketmaster.com/.
