Six technical theatre professionals were elected to USITT's Board of Directors in online voting this month. Two board members were re-elected and four new members won seats on USITT's 29-member board for three-year terms beginning July 1, 2016.

The board oversees leadership of USITT, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, the national non-profit for performing arts design and technology professionals.

The new directors are:

  • Tina Shackleford, Professor of Stage Management and Production at Carnegie Mellon School of Drama.
  • David S. Stewart, Production Director at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis.
  • Carey Hanson, Associate Professor of Costume Design at the University of Mississippi.

Re-elected to their second three-year terms are:

  • Kim Scott, Company Manager, Cirque du Soleil, CRISS Angel BeLIEve and The Beatles LOVE.
  • Paul Brunner, Associate Professor, Technical Director and head of the MFA Theatre Technology Program at Indiana University's Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance.

USITT is a leader in addressing important issues in the backstage industry, with programs to improve stage rigging safety, provide year-round continuing education, and increase diversity through scholarships and mentoring. For more info, visit www.usitt.org.

From March 16-19, USITT bring its Annual Conference & Stage Expo to Salt Lake City for the first time.
