Complexions Contemporary Ballet to Premiere New Work in Salt Lake City

By:

Desmond Richardson, recent featured choreographer and soloist on FOX's hit show So You Think You Can Dance and described by the New York Times as "one of the great modern dancers of his time," is bringing his company, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, to Kingsbury Hall for one night only.

The performance will include a premiere of the company's newest work, Places Please. Complexions Contemporary Ballet will perform at Kingsbury Hall on Tuesday, November 8 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $19.50 - $29.50 and are available by calling 801-581-7100 or visiting www.kingtix.com.

Desmond Richardson and Complexions co-founder Dwight Rhoden both have unique career paths that paved the way for them to re-define dance-as their multifaceted resumes show, neither has ever been comfortable with his art being placed in a box. Instead, from E! to PBS to VH1, from Cirque de Soleil to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to So You Think You Can Dance, the two have allowed the transformative power of their art to flow freely throughout the entertainment world-their creative vision restricted by nothing but the limits of the human body itself. The company's foremost innovation is that dance should be about removing boundaries, not reinforcing them. Whether it be the limiting traditions of a single style, period, venue, or culture, Complexions transcends them all, creating an open, continually evolving form of dance that reflects the movement of our world-and all its constituent cultures-as an interrelated whole.

The featured piece of Complexions Salt Lake City performance is Places Please, a new work receiving its world premiere at Kingsbury Hall. Places Please is a festive, high-energy work that emphasizes the relationship between the fanfare of audience and the spectacle of "over the
top" performance. Dancing to music from the Brian Setzer Orchestra, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Dave Brubeck, the dancers give their all at
a fever-pitch level-for the amusement of each other as well as the audience.

In addition to the evening performance, Complexions will perform a short piece in the atrium of the Salt Lake City Downtown Library on Monday, November 7 at 12 noon. This mini-performance is free and open to the public.
