In the midst of a ground-breaking and record-breaking season at its new midtown home, Capital Stage announces an ambitious line-up of titles for its 2012-2013 season.

"This year has been a tremendously challenging and rewarding one for us. We opened our new venue just in time for the opening of the first show of our season last October and since then we've been busy learning to run our new facility and managing significant growth at the box office," said Producing Director, JoNathan Williams.

The company's new season which was just announced to Capital Stage subscribers at a private event last Friday, represents some of the most imaginative and celebrated new plays from the Contemporary Theatre. "We're calling 2012-13 the season of the 'Power Plays'," said Gularte, "All of these plays are unique and distinct but each in one way or another examines themes of power. As our country enters a bitter election year what better time to reflect on the role that power plays in our lives."

Capital Stage Company's mission is to be a dynamic leader in the evolution of the contemporary live theatre landscape in the Capital region and to passionately engage audiences in the art of live storytelling with bold, innovative plays performed by professional artists, in an intimate, up close setting. With a strong commitment to expanding the base of working artists in the greater Sacramento region, the company will develop a company of actors, directors, writers, designers, and technical staff who are dedicated to bringing bold, lively productions of contemporary and classic plays to our community.

While part of the mission of any theater company is to entertain its audience, Capital Stage feels strongly that the productions it mounts address issues that are vital to understanding the society we live in and ourselves as human beings in that society. The company addresses themes of power and manipulation in relationships between men and women, children and parents, and organizations and individuals. Capital Stage invites audiences to question the ethics and meaning of art, the definitions of sanity and intelligence, and the line between exploitation and legitimate relationship. Capital Stage believes that in a large and growing urban environment, where individuals and groups are constantly bombarded with information and demands for decisions, the need for thoughtful examination of our interactions in society has never been greater.
