Billy Bob Thornton & The Boxmasters Coming to Folsom

By:

Billy Bob Thornton - yes, that Billy Bob Thornton - performs on Stage One of the Harris Center with his American country rock/rockabilly band The Boxmasters, a group of seasoned musicians whose music is rich in rhythm and story. They're the real deal: their third album Modbilly reached #1 on the Americana Radio Chart and #14 on the Americana Music Association's Top 100 Albums of the Year, and they've toured as Willie Nelson's opening act. "They're working in the tradition of musical mavericks Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash, surveying the world for stories of ordinary people" (Los Angeles Times). Onstage, "the group shifts seamlessly between Nuggets-type garage rock and country-inflected ballads, with Thornton prefacing the songs with alternatingly poignant and outrageous stories" (Rolling Stone).

Billy Bob Thornton AND THE BOXMASTERS perform Wednesday, September 14, 2016; 7:30 pm andThursday, September 15, 2016; 7:30 pm. Tickets are priced at $29-$55, Premium $59 (There's a 10% discount for students with ID.) Tickets are available online at www.harriscenter.net or from the Harris Center Ticket Office at 916-608-6888 from noon to 6 pm Monday through Saturday, and two hours before show times. The Harris Center is located on the west side of the Folsom Lake College campus in Folsom, CA, facing East Bidwell Street.

Formed in 2007, the band - currently comprised of Teddy Andreadis, J.D. Andrew and Billy Bob "Bud" Thornton - released the self-titled debut record "The Boxmasters" to critical acclaim. This two-CD set was comprised of original songs - including the Americana Radio hit "The Poor House" - and eclectic covers of tunes by The Beatles, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Mott The Hoople and Mel Tillis.

After touring the country in 2008, The Boxmasters released a Christmas album - "Christmas Cheer" - and by April of 2009 had released their third album - "Modbilly" (a term that they coined as their style of music which was influenced by 60's British mod music and influences from Southern American music, both pop and country). In 2015, The Boxmasters returned to the road for 2 tours across the U.S. and released both "Somewhere Down The Road" - another double album that was named to Rolling Stone's "30 Best Country Records You Probably Haven't Heard." Their new album - "Boys And Girls...And The World" - has just been released on NDR Records, with the band launching another aggressive tour schedule that kicked off in Texas in August.

About the band

Teddy Andreadis has shared the stage with legendary artists from Guns N Roses, Carole King, Alice Cooper, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, to B.B. King and others. J.D. Andrew is the Grammy Award-winning recording engineer whose credits include The Rolling Stones, Kanye West, The Pussycat Dolls, Will Kimbrough, Tommy Womack, Guy Clark, and more.
