(03/21/2022) - For those who have ever been in a wedding party, you know the drill. Who the hell are these bridesmaids or groomsmen that we are weirdly matched up with? Do we even know them, or, more importantly, how much do we really know the bride or the groom (or both) at all?

(01/18/2022) - A smidgeon of Twain, a splash of haiku, and a hint of lunar conspiracy, served up on a bed of mixed metaphor and frogs—The Floating World, a new one-man-show by Wilbury Theatre Group Resident Artist Andy Russ that is equal parts pantomime and performance art, presents a series of multimedia meditations on the elusivity of the human experience and the languages with which we try to explain it.
(12/22/2021) - When typically going into a theatre performance, you have either seen the play before or heard about it in some way so you go in with certain expectations. The great thing about 'Cirque Dreams Holidaze' was, with never seeing a performance, we had no idea what we were in for, a visually stunning performance that proved to be magical.

(10/13/2021) - I'm not the biggest fan of romantic comedies-so predictable and just too much, well, drama you know? Probably why the movie studios have shied away from these over the past 18 months. Who needs more depression? But THE 1990 PRETTY WOMAN has always been a rare feather in the Rom Com hat and the launching of the North American Tour of PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL at the Providence Performing Arts Center proved no different.

(02/26/2020) - When you get seated inside the Chace Theater at Trinity Rep, you might think you're in the wrong place. Eugene Lee's set for A TALE OF TWO CITIES, written by Brian McEleny and based on Dickens' novel, looks like a library. Stacks and stacks of books on two levels set behind rows of tables. When Christopher Sadlers and Joel Thibodeau enter alone to perform a musical introduction, you might still be confused. Check your program; you're in the right place. Not until the actors appear and begin intoning 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times . . .,' are you totally certain. It's a roundabout trip, but A TALE OF TWO CITIES ends up where it needs to be.
(02/12/2020) - There are times when being a theater reviewer is a fabulous gig. Last night at the Providence Performing Arts Center was one of those times. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, running through Sunday at PPAC is not to be missed. It is warm, funny, sad, uplifting, and helps us see the world from the vantage point of the oppressed-it is gorgeous. First, let's give credit to FIDDLER'S creators: Jerry Bock wrote the music, Sheldon Harnick the lyrics, and Joseph Stein the book. Bock and Harnick had previously collaborated on the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Fiorello; Stein had been part of the writing team along with Woody Allen, Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner and Neil Simon on television's Your Show on Shows-these were some talented guys. The original Broadway production of the show, which opened in 1964, had the first musical theatre run in history to surpass 3,000 performances. It held the record for the longest running Broadway musical for almost ten years. The production was extraordinarily profitable and highly acclaimed. It won nine Tony awards, including best musical, score, book, direction and choreography. It spawned five Broadway revivals and a highly successful film adaptation and has enjoyed enduring international popularity.
(02/05/2020) - Some shows seek to entertain; think the first act of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. Some seek to inform; think the second act of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. What director Jude Sandy has come up with in this amazing production of August Wilson's RADIO GOLF is a play that is both wildly entertaining and yet manages to grapple with the most serious conflicts of our time. RADIO GOLF is both powerful and hilarious, often at the same time. It's running time is over two hours and forty-five minutes, but, trust me, you'll never glance at your watch.
