Gamm Theatre's Annual Gala Raises $257,000 for Education Programs

The Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre (The Gamm) held its annual benefit on Thursday, May 14 celebrating the 20th anniversary of Gamm Education. In the elegant spaces of the Providence Public Library, the nonprofit theater raised $257,000 to both sustain and grow its education programs.

Gamm Gala 41: Beyond the Stage was a heartfelt retrospective of transformative education programs and a look forward to boundless opportunities. Guests enjoyed delicious food, a playful “school pictures selfie spot,” and entertainment by the North Kingstown High School Jazz Combo. The theater also recognized some of the individuals and institutions who have helped grow its education programs since its founding in 2006 and have served as partners in our more recent Gamm Fellowship Program.

Myrth York and the Otto H. York Foundation was honored with the David Wax Award for Outstanding Commitment to the Arts. The theater also paid tribute to William E. Tolman High School, Jaqueline M. Walsh School for the Arts, the University of Rhode Island, Community College of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, and The Levine Fund for Youth Access. These partnerships make it possible for The Gamm to provide education programs for K-12 students in Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts, as well as recent college graduates, and our community at large.

"What a truly special and inspiring night we shared with the Gamm community of patrons, philanthropists, and friends. We were so proud to honor Myrth York and The Otto H. York Foundation for their generosity and the longevity and impact of the foundation's philanthropic support. We were humbled to pay tribute to key collaborators and partners in Gamm Education over the years. Their support has enabled our education programs to grow in ways we could not have imagined,” said Gamm Artistic Director Tony Estrella. “Education programming is foundational to our theater's mission and the most effective way The Gamm reaches beyond the stage. We all know that arts education is perennially underfunded. Without the generosity of individual and institutional funders, our theater could not serve the many young people and families who benefit from an arts education, and the educators who depend on The Gamm to help fill that critical gap."
