The new musical comedy SOME LIKE IT HOT is now officially open at the Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street). Per opening night tradition, the Legacy Robe was awarded to the ensemble member with the most Broadway credits. See photos from the ceremony.

Studio Tenn – the Franklin-based professional theater company – launches its 2022-23 season in collaboration with Tennessee Performing Arts Center for a concert staging of Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, playing for just two nights at TPAC’s James K. Polk Theatre September 30 and October 1. Under the direction of Studio Tenn artistic director Patrick Cassidy (who shares duties with co-director and choreographer Gerry McIntyre), Aida features a starry cast of actors with Broadway pedigrees (Jackie Burns and Rex Smith), along with some of Music City’s most beloved stage veterans (Bakari Jamal King and Mark Cabus) and featuring the stunning triumph of a young woman who audiences have watched grow up on Nashville stages (Maya Riley) in the title role.

The national touring company of The Prom lands at the Ahmanson August 10, 2022 (with a preview August 9th). The story of a group of Broadway divas meshing with a small-town high school results in hijinks and lots of fantastic dancing. Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw reprises his Broadway directing and choreographic duties on this tour. Got a chance to throw some questions out to Patrick Wetzel, who plays one of the Broadway superstars Barry Glickman.

At this half-hour long event, Equity celebrated Westphal's life with a special version of the Robe ceremony, honoring Westphal with a commemorative panel. BroadwayWorld was there and you can check out photos from the event here!

On September 2, Waitress celebrated its return to Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, and following in the great Broadway tradition, ensemble member Anastacia McCleskey was awarded the Legacy Robe.

BroadwayWorld was saddened to report that Broadway veteran Merwin Foard recently passed away at 59 years old. Born September 16, 1960 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Foard was last seen on Broadway in Aladdin as a standby for Jafar/Sultan.

It's fun at times and messy, but the mega-talented Ms. Kanyinda takes it to completely higher level.

On November 7, Tina: The Tina Turner Musical celebrated opening night at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, and following in the great Broadway tradition, ensemble member Katie Webber was awarded the Legacy Robe from Moulin Rouge recipient Bahiyah Hibah.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, rumors have been circulating around a revival of Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida, which might result in a national tour or even a stop on Broadway. Now according to an Equity casting notice, the show, helmed by former Broadway cast member Schele Williams and with choreography by Tony nominee Camille A. Brown, will get a developmental lab in March 2020.
