BWW Review: Technology Is in Control as We UPLOAD the Future at the Park Avenue Armory
by Richard Sasanow - March 24, 2022

I couldn’t help thinking of a new science fiction-comedy series on Amazon during the local premiere of UPLOAD, the opera by Michel van der Aa at the Park Avenue Armory on Tuesday. Both had the same name. Both explore a near future where technology controls everything, including the afterlife, as a person can choose to “upload” its consciousness to continue living digitally. Both pose questions, though in different ways, about humanity, technology, consumerism, and so on.

BWW Dance Review: Balanchine, Peck, Wheeldon and Bournonville/Martins.
by Barnett Serchuk - October 08, 2018

An admission. I didn't go to the New York City Ballet fashion gala. Why? Because I didn't care. The New York City Ballet is probably the only company in the world that never had to pander to an audience seeking couture thrills, at least when Balanchine was alive. I know that's changed and the company has to bring in the bucks, but when the draw seems to be clothes and not choreography, it gets me thinking. What's in store for us?

EDINBURGH 2018: BWW Review: CHRIS FORBES: PROPHECY, Gilded Balloon Teviot
by Fraser MacDonald - August 13, 2018

It's safe to say you will never listen to Wonderwall the same again but for a light-hearted exploration of religion, and a little bit of theology along the way, Prophecy is a safe bet for those seeking something more than just comedy this Fringe season.

BWW Review: CHICAGO at Átrium Theatre, Budapest
by Gabor Szilagyi - July 17, 2018

If you are a musical theatre aficionado and know all the notes of Kander's and Ebb's masterpiece by heart or if you want to hear better voices than Ute Lemper's or Ruthie Henshall's on the stage - then this is definitely not your kind of Chicago. But if you want to be entertained by media criticism, the extensive use of slang dictionary or scaled down, larger than life characters who can actually be your neighbors in suburban Chicago or even in Budapest - then go for it!
