Review: THE PITCH at Odyssey Theatre
by Amanda Callas - July 26, 2024

Based on playwright and lead actor Tom Alper’s real life experiences, this is a boiler room tale of telemarketing and desperation.  For something that is fiercely realistic and edgy, with a New York fighter’s indie heart, The Pitch is also hilarious, life-affirming, and an insanely good time.  It’s a sold-out smash hit at the Odyssey Theatre.

Review: THE KITE RUNNER Presented By Broadway In Chicago
by Zac Thriffiley - June 14, 2024

Fans of the novel may be enthralled at seeing the characters and events of THE KITE RUNNER brought to life before their eyes, largely through moving performances and clever stagecraft. But this dramatization feels unsatisfying, an adaptation that ultimately fails to convince audiences that it is necessary much less an improvement on the original.

Based on a true story and the 2011 documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16, this fictional musical follows Jaime New as he battles homophobia and prejudice to self-actualize into a fierce drag queen.

Review: ANGELS IN AMERICA-PART ONE at EPAC
by Rich Mehrenberg - June 01, 2024

While theater often manages to entertain or to move its audience, Angles in America is a great example of how quality theater can also educate....upon hearing Kushner’s masterful dialogue and viewing Checchia’s excellently vulgar and vile performance (of Roy Cohn), I was incentivized to learn everything that I could about this man and the damage that he has done.
